Is Agra Airport Currently Operational?
Yes. Agra Airport already has a small operational civil terminal handling domestic flights. In 2024-25, the airport handled close to 2.4 lakh passengers combined arrivals and departures. Airlines including IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India have operated scheduled domestic flights from Agra at various times, subject to seasonal demand and route changes. Passengers enter the civil enclave through the Arjun Nagar Gate, since the airport is co-located with an active Air Force base.
What About the New Terminal?
A much larger new terminal is under construction to handle growing tourist and passenger traffic. The foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2024, with a budget of around โน123 crore approved for the expansion. The new terminal is being built at Dhanauli and is expected to include:
- A passenger terminal building of approximately 30,000 square metres
- 9 aircraft parking bays
- Runway extension to support larger aircraft, including Airbus A321
- Upgrade to international-category airport status

Expected Opening Date
Construction was scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, with official targets pointing to completion by late 2028 or the first half of 2029. Some local reports have suggested an earlier partial completion target around mid-2027 for parts of the new civil enclave, but this is not yet officially confirmed.
